R4W new odyssey
Race for Water Foundation, a pioneer in ocean conservation, mark its 13th year of ongoing commitment and concrete action. As 2024 approaches, the foundation is proud to announce its next Odyssey in the Mediterranean Sea aboard the MODX 70, the 1st Zero Carbon Emission catamaran. After two worldwide expeditions against plastic pollution, the foundation is setting sail again with new ambitions: demonstrate the importance of a healthy ocean to fight climate change and promote solutions to decarbonise maritime transport.
GLOBAL ODYSSEYS ABOARD REVOLUTIONNARY VESSELS
Since its inception in 2010, Race for Water has achieved two major global Odysseys, tackling the growing threat of plastic pollution. The first Odyssey, carried out in 2015 established a global assessment of plastic pollution. This initial exploration laid the basis for the Foundation’s future actions, and led to a second Odyssey, “The plastic Odyssey”, launched in 2017. This international expedition aimed to study plastic pollution locally to develop new economic and social models encouraging the reduction, collection, and energy valorisation of plastic waste: Act on land to prevent plastic waste from reaching waterways, finally ending up in the Ocean.
AN ONGOING COMMITMENT TO OCEAN CONSERVATION
This second Odyssey was brutally interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this situation, the Race for Water Foundation has been able to maintain its commitment over the past three years, focusing on the creation of relevant digital content and joining the coalition of NGOs mobilized to obtain an ambitious International Treaty against plastic pollution during the intergovernmental negotiations currently under discussion at the UN.
RENEWED COMMITMENTS FOR A 3RD ODYSSEY ON BOARD A NEW AMBASSADOR VESSEL.
Building on these experiences, the Race for Water foundation is renewing its commitment to the ocean, by tackling two major new challenges: climate change and the decarbonization of maritime transport.
To make these ambitions a reality, Race for Water is launching a new Odyssey in 2024, starting in the Mediterranean Sea. These new objectives are in line with the Foundation’s three flagship programs:
Welcome "Ocean & Climate" scientist experts to study the impact of climate change on the Ocean and the importance of marine biodiversity to combat it.
Raise awareness on the importance of the Ocean through the creation of educational content, events organization, and international interventions of the Race for Water’s teams.
Promote and apply “Zero Carbon Emission” technological solutions used on board to contribute to the decarbonization of the maritime world.
Race for Water Foundation is also renewing its historic partnership with Ocean Développement shipyard, in collaboration with Aeroforce, builder of the MODX 70, the first zero-emission catamaran navigating with 100% renewable energy. This revolutionary and exceptional vessel will become the Foundation’s itinerant ambassador, symbolizing Race for Water’s commitment to sustainable navigation, in harmony with the Ocean.
The history of Race for Water is now being written with new vigor, woven of challenges and innovative solutions to preserve our common good: the ocean

OUR NEW ODYSSEY
Today, Race for Water renews its commitment to the oceans, and sets sail again with new ambitions : to demonstrate the importance of a healthy Ocean to fight climate change, and to promote solutions for decarbonizing maritime transport. To realize these ambitions, the Race for Water Foundation is launching a new Odyssey in 2024, starting in the Mediterranean Sea.
AN AMBASSADOR SHIP THAT PROVIDES SOLUTIONS
Our historic partner Océan Développement is collaborating with Aeroforce to launch the most energy-efficient zero-carbon ship in the world, the MODX 70. This ship, created and designed by experts in naval architecture, uses the most advanced technologies and is a unique “floating laboratory of innovations”. The inflatable, retractable wings, adaptable to all ships, designed by Aeroforce, provide a disruptive solution to decarbonize maritime transport.
The collaboration between Océan Développent, Aeroforce and the Race for Water Foundation is a perfect alliance for avant-garde and engaging projects. The MODX 70 will become the new ambassador of Zero Emission Ships and ocean conservation.
