Blue Horizons: Pitching for a Regenerative Ocean Economy
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Business
The ocean, covering over 70% of our planet's surface, is vital for sustaining life on Earth, regulating climate, and supporting biodiversity and economies. Yet, it faces unprecedented threats from pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, climate change, and lack of data-driven insights and prediction, leading to deteriorating marine ecosystems and the loss of marine species.
Addressing these complex challenges requires solutions that go beyond conventional methods, necessitating systemic changes brought about through the creation of new science and engineering, development of new business models, and adoption of next-generation technologies.
In this light, UpLink has partnered with the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with support from WAVE, a collective action platform powered by the Future Investment Initiative Institute, to launch the Regenerative Blue Economy Challenge.
The Blue Horizons: Pitching for a Regenerative Ocean Economy Session will see five winners of the Regenerative Blue Economy Challenge pitch to win CHF 100,000 made available by MEP. Solutions address a range of topics from tackling marine pollution and advancing ocean-based climate solutions to building ocean resilience and harnessing ocean knowledge.
