Itron technology modernises water infrastructure in Tennessee
Consolidated Utility District will deploy the company’s mobile meter data collection solution and upgrade its advanced metering infrastructure which will enable better leak detection.
The solution will help Consolidated Utility District improve efficiency and conserve water
Itron is working with Consolidated Utility District (CUD) in the US state of Tennessee to deploy its mobile meter data collection solution and upgrade its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
The Temetra mobile meter data collection system is being used in conjunction with Itron’s fixed network and will provide advanced capabilities such as active water leak detection and consumer portals.
Operational efficiency gains
Itron’s solution will equip CUD to improve operational efficiency and customer service to its more than 160,000 customers across Rutherford County in central Tennessee. CUD plans to initiate the project in the first quarter of this year and aims to have the system live this summer.
Utilising Temetra, CUD will automate meter reading collection across its water distribution system and provide a seamless billing experience for customers. It will help the utility improve billing accuracy and better visualise the interval data collected from meters, which will allow CUD to easily identify leaks and address issues sooner. The advanced data collection capabilities will help conserve water and improve operational costs and efficiencies.
“CUD is one of the fastest-growing utility districts in Tennessee with more than 65,000 accounts throughout our service territory,” said Bryant Bradley, director of operations at CUD. “Itron’s solution will allow us to upgrade our existing water meters, which currently communicate with one-way automated meter reading modules.
“The upgrades will also equip CUD to improve customer service, protect revenue and better manage water resources with detailed usage information from the overall distribution system, including future leak sensors, shut off valves and network capabilities.”
Temetra is Itron’s next-generation meter data collection solution. Through a web-based interface and GIS-based mapping functionality, it provides utilities with new ways to optimise operations. Temetra allows utilities to cost-effectively access and modify metering route assignments anywhere through a simple web login.

With full Temetra Mobile integration, Temetra provides utilities with a complete meter data collection package.
Itron’s portfolio of smart networks, software, services, meters and sensors helps utilities and cities to securely deliver critical infrastructure solutions to communities in more than 100 countries.
