VicInAqua (www.vicinaqua.eu): a tailor-made response to local sanitation and water needs of inhabitants and industries around Lake Victoria!

In June 2016, 11 partners from 7 countries (Europe and Africa) came together in this research project to design and implement in three years an all-around and sustainable solution for water reuse in the Lake Victoria Basin. The innovative, cost effective, robust and self-cleaning water treatment system aims at enabling the local reuse of wastewater streams where the sanitation infrastructures are poor and the demand for water high – here in the case of the Lake Victoria Basin in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) and Agriculture Irrigation. The pilot site for demonstration of the technology will be fully autonomous powered by renewable energies.

VicInAqua will also organise technology trainings, site visits and events to enhance the awareness and knowledge of various stakeholders such as local politics and populations or fish farmers.
