The global industrial wastewater treatment service market is projected to reach USD 28.0 billion by 2024 from an estimated USD 20.8 billion in 2019. Market players are emphasizing on adoption of new technologies such as biological treatment, membrane bioreactor, and activated sludge. This growth can be attributed to factors such as growing government policies and legislative mandates for illegal discharge of wastewater into the environment, need for policy and standards compliance, and need for adhering to the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) initiatives.

The treatment varies depending upon the presence of contaminants. Domestic wastewater includes sewage and gray water such as outflow from baths and washing machines. Filtration is usually needed before sanitation treatments, to remove particles that can distribute sediment, pathogens, and algae. The filtration segment is expected to hold the largest market share during the forecast period.  The major types of filtration processes include chlorine filtration, Ultraviolet (UV) filtration, and Ozone filtration. Among these processes, UV filtration is a hugely cost intensive process, followed by the Ozone filtration process.
