Dear All,
Since April 29th we have faced heavy rains, I almost left home last Wednesday. The street in which I live started to sink 120 meters away from here. Luckily I live 3 meters higher than the beginning of the street. However, our Management School (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul) sank 1 meter (photo attached), and the water entered several neighborhoods of Porto Alegre, Canoas, Eldorado (cities).
We have more than 90% of the Rio Grande do Sul State flooded, and more than 100 deaths, 8,000 persons that lost their houses, and 500,000 out of homes. The Guaíba lake raised 5.30 meters and invaded the historical center of the city (Porto Alegre). Other neighboring cities are almost totally sunk (Canoas, Eldorado do Sul, and Guaíba). We are thinking about how to help students that lost their homes. We hope we can succeed.
