Halifax Water successfully releases its first ever online digital customer platform, with help of technology partner Avertra, moving a step closer to becoming the utility of the future.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (March 17, 2021) - Halifax Water, the water, wastewater and storm water utility serving residents in the Halifax Regional Municipality, has successfully released online access to customer accounts through a new online digital platform. Customers can now access their Halifax Water accounts and a suite of services online through Customer Connect. This is the first phase of a 2-phase deployment approach that Halifax Water successfully completed along with technology partner, Avertra.

The full scale of the project includes Halifax Water implementing MiCustomer, a multi-channel platform that increases customer engagement levels. The first release on November 23rd, 2020 included bill presentment, service requests and integration with Halifax Water’s AMI data. The next release will include integration with GIS, an enhanced mobile website, consumption forecasting, program enrollments, guest access, a more dynamic user interface, and much more.

“The information available through Customer Connect helps customers manage their water consumption and their bills, receive notifications and alerts and other benefits. There are also operational benefits for Halifax Water. Reducing water consumption has a positive environmental impact, can help reduce Halifax Water’s greenhouse gas emissions, preserve capacity within our systems and potentially reduce some costs.”, noted Cathie O’Toole, Halifax Water’s General Manager. With the support of over 83,000 customers who now have the latest in metering technology, the initial benefits of the Customer Connect program are now available, putting customers in control of their account.

Avertra’s low code development platform enables rapid delivery– with Release One being delivered in four months making it the first online customer platform for Halifax Water’s 105,000 water, wastewater and stormwater customers. “Avertra has been a great partner in helping us effectively apply solutions that are most relevant to our business and the needs of our customers. Their agile and adaptable approach helps keep our objectives in focus and on schedule” notes Reid Campbell, Halifax Water’s Director of Water Services.

With numerous successful partnerships within the industry over the last decade, Avertra brings together the expertise and drive to empower clients to take ownership of digital trends and the solutions they offer. “We are very excited about our partnership with Halifax Water and honored that Avertra and our MiCustomer platform was selected to deploy their first ever customer self-service solution, utilizing critical AMI data. Now that the foundation is in place, we are looking forward to deploying advanced capabilities around usage and bill prediction which can influence customer water usage behavior positively, shaping a more sustainable, digital future.” notes Bashir Bseirani, CEO at Avertra.
