This is a nice idea, but I am not convinced that it is sustainable with rising sea level and intensifying coastal storms due to climate change. Moving large complexes like the one shown in this post to offshore locations might be a solution, but current technology to do that at such scale does not exist.

Growing algae in coastal regions is being taken up by me in India. We have a huge coastline and in some regions macroalgae or seaweed farming has started off. My area of interest is in microalgae and I am looking at setting up farms for the production of dunaliella salina (beta carotene), spirulina, thraustochytrium. The microalgae that we will farm will be for aquaculture, dairy farming, agriculture and horticulture as a biofertilizer, but we also plan to add different microalgae to food items in the form of snacks and ready made dinners as a protein fortification.
