Besides, membranes have emerged as a significant innovation for treatment and reclamation, as well as a leading process in the upgrade and expansion of wastewater treatment plants. Membrane treatment for wastewater can be tracked down over three decades ago. However past decade witnessed a rapid increase in the volume of wastewater that is treated with membranes to remarkably high quality standards, typically for reuse purposes. Indeed, today more municipal wastewater treatment facilities are using membrane technologies than ever, and this number is on the rise as the technology offers unparalleled capability in meeting rigorous requirements.In addition, membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology is well positioned to play an imperative role in wastewater and reuse applications, both domestically and internationally. Technological advances in the past decade have brought MBR costs down dramatically and no other wastewater treatment process is as efficient and effective. From retrofits to decentralized plants, MBRs are a versatile treatment platform that can help change perception and turn wastewater into a viable resource. When looking into advanced water reuse applications, MBRs represent the best overall investment a plant owner can make. Technological developments and advancements have made MBRs both the best available technology and investment for wastewater treatment and reuse. MBRs are likely to play a vital function in advancing the reuse market as it is the most effective and cheapest technology to achieve today’s reuse quality standards. As reuse grows beyond the typical purple-pipe landscape irrigation application, higher and higher levels of treatment are needed. Only MBR is able to efficiently and effectively provide high removal rates of BOD, nutrients, and solids, all necessary for today’s reuse needs. In the case of potable reuse where reverse osmosis is employed, MBR also provides the ideal pre-treatment option. Also, forward osmosis (FO) is a rapidly-growing membrane technology that can be used as an energy-saving alternative to standard membrane water treatment systems such as reverse osmosis (RO). FO in combination with low pressure RO can be applied for water reuse. Our April issue will be focusing on application of MBR, MBBR, SBR, SBBR Technologies In water treatment.   We would like to invite you to share your experiences in the form of articles, technical papers and case studies with our readers.
