Latin America is one of the fastest growing RES markets in the world with 120 + hydropower projects planned and $140,000 m of total combined investment planned for hydropower projects. Less than 50% of the Latin America hydroelectric potential has been harnessed, when growing demand for energy, is expected to increase between 2.6% to 3.7% annually until 2040.

According to the latest researches in 2018, countries of the region added energy capacity: 11,000 MW in Brasil (Belo Monte units), 556 MW in Ecuador, 111 MW in Peru, 111 MW in Colombia, 110 MW in Chile, 61 MW in Guatemala, 55 MW in Bolivia, 46 MW in Argentina and 17 MW in Panama, and several thousand MW are under construction and projected in Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and other countries. The region is also undergoing the rehabilitation and expansion of some major projects in Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
