Fresh water is not going to be available in adequate quantity in most countries. Besides management of demand, the solution lies in reuse and recycling of wastewater. This will radically change the practices being followed in water and sanitation sector such as briefly stated below:
1. Toilets will be flushed only by treated wastewater
2. Dual plumbing will be introduced at the inlet and outlet end.
3. Decentralised sewage treatment systems will have to be adopted.
4. Run off from terraces shall be captured to recharge groundwater.
5. Small water bodies will be created to enhance recharge of groundwater.
