2016 Australian Water Industry Alliance Awards Finalists

Technologies that measure and manage soil moisture, salinity and temperature, assess pipeline conditions and treat waste water are among the final pojects for the Water Industry Alliance awards 

 

The annual celebration of achievements and expertise of the local water industry will see seven award winners being picked out of a final list including local small businesses, engineering firms utilities, and others.

Sentek is one of the finalists for its IrriMAX software, which helps farmers and the broader agriculture industry to measure and manage soil conditions, enabling better irrigation scheduling, plus reduce inputs (water, fertilisers and energy) and increase crop yield and quality.

Also in the running is Detection Services, which has an exclusive licence to commercialise pipeline condition assessment technology developed at the University of Adelaide.

Export-focused Micromet, which is making significant inroads into China for its game-changing wastewater treatment technology, is also a strong contender.

“Our awards highlight the expertise of members and with water being at the forefront of the nation’s agenda, it generates awareness of the capabilities that South Australia has in terms of the broader water industry,” WIA interim chief executive David Evans.

“We again received a range of nominations showcasing the capabilities and innovation of the local industry and we look forward to showcasing the achievements of our members,” Mr Evans said.

ANZ chair in Business Growth and University of South Australia’s Centre for Business Growth director Dr Jana Matthews will be the keynote speaker with Water Minister Ian Hunter opening the awards ceremony and presenting the Minister’s Award for Climate Change Leadership.

The WIA in collaboration with the Environment Protection Authority SA will also be presenting a new award this year for Excellence in Environmental Practice.

Finalists:

• Sentek Technologies for its IrriMAX software technology that helps with measuring and managing moisture, salinity and temperature of soil.
• Aquenta Consulting for its long-term service to SA Water.
• RPC Pipe Systems for the Flowtite glass reinforced plastic (GRP) Jacking Pipe; it holds the exclusive Australian licence for the pipe systems, technology and brand.
• SA Water Corporation for incorporating Innovative Stormwater Re-Use as part of Urban Infrastructure and also for its novel approach to control of blue-green algae in wastewater lagoons to facilitate reuse.
• Hydro-dis Water Treatment Systems for the Hydro-dis Water Treatment Systems, one of the most cost-effective, environmentally safe and WHS-compliant water disinfection systems available.
• Detection Services for the Adelaide Uni-developed p-CATTM pipeline condition assessment technology it is commercialising.
• Dematec Automation for its work with the Roxby Council WTP & Pump Stations Upgrade.
• Factor UTB for its work on the Rosebery Sewage Treatment Plant in Tasmania.
• Allwater & SA Water for its Adelaide Services Alliance Energy Management System, a 10-year services alliance contract, which began in 2011, to operate and maintain metropolitan Adelaide’s water, wastewater and recycled water systems.
• Micromet for its continuous flow electrolysis-based low energy waste water treatment solutions.
