Ceres is excited to announce that their long-awaited Water Climate Bond Standard is now open for public comment
Ceres and the partners - the Climate Bonds Initiative, World Resources Institute, CDP, and the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation - are developing these standards to provide investors with verifiable, science-based criteria for evaluating water-related bonds. These standards will also provide critical guidance to issuers in the global corporate, municipal, sovereign and supra-sovereign markets in differentiating their green bonds offerings. Ceres has engaged with numerous investors, issuers, underwriters and water specialists across the globe throughout the evolution of this standard and are now looking for feedback from you.
In the past year, approximately 10% of total green bonds proceeds have gone towards water-related projects. Year to date green bond issuance has reached approximately $38 billion, and developing this Water Climate Bond Standard is critical in both ensuring credibility of this market, as well as spurring investment in these water-oriented projects. This standard can be used to evaluate anything from industrial water efficiency and reuse, to watershed restoration or large-scale water supply infrastructure development.
For more information about the standard or if you would like to read the draft document, click here. We welcome your feedback on how to improve this standard during our formal 60-day public consultation period; please send your comments to justine@climatebonds.net. The public consultation period closes on Friday, February 12th at 12:00 pm EST / 17:00 GMT.
