MIOX Acquired by Johnson Matthey

MIOX Corp., a water purification company, was purchased by UK company Johnson Matthey, a publicly traded British chemicals and sustainable technologies company

MIOX's proprietary technology uses a mix of water and salt shot with an electric current to treat drinking water.

MIOX has been growing and landing deals over the past five years. The company designs and manufactures water-purification system for commercial and municipal clients, such as the city of Bogotá, Colombia. MIOX has exported its products to more than 30 countries worldwide and has seen growing sales in Mexico and Central and South America, where MIOX signed a distribution agreement with Fomento Económico Mexicano S.A.B. de C.V., or Grupo FEMSA, which is Coca-Cola’s bottling partner for Latin America, Business First reported in 2012.

In 2015 Business First reported Aqua Access H2gO water purifier, which used technology licensed from MIOX Corp., hitting shelves at Walmart and REI.

The Journal reported the company had 50 employees in 2013. The company has received nearly $50 million in venture capital from Flywheel Ventures and other private equity firms since forming in 1994.
