The World Bank estimates that climate-related water scarcity will cost the region 6% to 14% of its GDP by 2050, with 70% of the region’s GDP exposed to high or very high water stress. Only 2% of the Arab region is covered by wetlands, and 94% of those are vulnerable to climate change. Consequently, this results in coping with future water demands in the Arab region.
Over US$85bn worth of water and wastewater projects are currently planned or underway across the GCC alone, with projects covering all segments of the water sector.
