‘The Morning Assembly’ contest for schools across India I write to you on behalf of Earth Day Network, an international, environmental NGO that grew out of the first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) and today engages with over 50,000 organizations in some 196 countries to widen, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement worldwide. April 2017 will mark the 47th anniversary of Earth Day. To commemorate this, we are pleased to announce ‘The Morning Assembly’ contest for schools across India. This, first of its kind contest for schools, aims to strengthen stewardship for the environment among students by focusing their attention on environmental issues. An awareness of these will help them understand the importance of caring for Earth and the need for all to do our bit for the planet. We invite your school to be a part of this contest. Winners will receive a Solar Education Kit (that also runs a fan, lights, and has a mobile charging unit) courtesy Vikram Solar. All participating schools will receive an eCertificate- the signature of the international Earth Day Network President will also be on it. Schools will also be recognized on our social media sites. What does your school have to do? Something very simple! During Earth Day 2017 Month (April), dedicate a little time on any one day at regular Morning Assembly to focus on environment-related issues. Some schools have told us that they plan to have their students recite poems and read out texts on nature. Singing songs about our beautiful Earth is another favourite. Others are preparing a small skit. Still others are developing more innovative ideas. There is time to reflect and plan as the Earth Day month has just begun. However, what needs to be done immediately is to register for the contest. Please click here and fill in this online form. Once you do that, we will send you the entry form, which needs to be filled in and sent to us by April 30th, latest. For any clarification, your office can get in touch with Neela Majumdar at earthdaynetworkindia@gmail.com. She is available on the phone at +91 9830014934. Earth Day Network looks forward to receiving your registration at the earliest. Thank you.
