Dear Colleagues, In the last months we worked on the "Effect of temporal aggregation on the annual maximum rainfall depths". It has been very interesting to observe that around the world rainfall data are available with different temporal aggregations (“ta”) linked to the progress of recording systems through time and to the specific location. We are sending this message to scientists who recently published papers related to rainfall data and that could be potentially interested to our initiative. In case you manage rain gauges or have access to their data, we would like to ask you the following information (in the same format showed in the attached file): 1) For each rain gauge, the aggregation time, “ta”, of the records (e.g., Perugia rain gauge: from 1921 to 1958, ta=1 day; from 1959 to 1990, ta= 30 minutes; from 1991 to 2017, ta=1 minute) and the geographic position of the station in whatever reference system (e.g., Perugia rain gauge: UTM33 x = 286494 m; UTM33 y = 4775910 m); 2) For at least one rain gauge, the annual maximum rainfall depths for the 24-hour duration. The main objective of the initiative will be to put all together information regarding “ta” (probably for the first time) and to synthetize this in a technical note with all participants as co-authors. As a secondary objective (and a possible second joint paper), we could analyze the annual maximum rainfall depths at 24-hour duration before and after their correction on the base of a recently published paper (Morbidelli et al., 2018, Journal of Hydrology, 554, 710-720) and other relevant literature.
