Low dose copper pollution is well known to damage apical sensory neuron cilia in coho salmon. If other cilia are similarly harmed in mussels and other organisms that depend heavily on cilia, copper pollution, whether from mine effluent or from brake pad wear into stormwater, should be carefully assessed for.
