Wooden Water Bottle Instead of Plastic?

An alliance called NaturALL is trying to switch from plastic to bottles made from completely sustainable and environmentally friendly sources.

Fossil fuels are a limited, non-renewable plastic resource. Plastic waste remains in the environment for centuries and is a threat to animals. Transporting bottled water increases the carbon footprint and drinking it can be up to 2000 times more expensive than tap water.

Big companies such as Pepsi and Coca-Cola have been looking for alternative, ecological materials and have been making their bottles form plant sources (sugar canes).

Danone, Nestlé Waters, Evia and Perrier, with Californian startup Origin, created NaturALL.

Their goal is to find a material for bottles which is renewable and doesn’t harm the environment.

Wood and wood-based materials are currently the best options since they do not threaten the food industry as, for example, sugar cane does.

Additionally, some companies are improving their production of plant-based plastic, focusing on cardboard-based bottle research and tests or trying to stop using PET completely.
