John Rumpler is clean water program director and senior attorney for Environment America, a federation of state-based, citizen supported environmental advocacy groups. John has directed numerous campaigns to protect our rivers, lakes, streams, and drinking water. He has co-authored several research reports – including   Fracking by the Numbers  and Corporate Agribusiness and the Fouling of America’s Waterways- and has testified before Congress on enforcement of clean water laws.  John is now coordinating new efforts to curb pollution from factory farms and “Get the Lead Out” of drinking water.   

Prior to his position at Environment America, John practiced public interest and environmental law, representing community organizations in land use, zoning, and permitting matters.

John began his environmental activist work with the MASSPIRG chapter here at Tufts University in 1985, and then worked in various roles with the PIRGs before earning his law degree at Northeastern University School of Law in 1996.

John lives and works in Boston. In his free time, you might find John running, building sandcastles, cooking, or playing tennis or chess.
