The planned desalination plants are in line with the UAE’s objectives of sustaining freshwater sources, UAE state news agency, WAM¸ reported.

The agreement is also said to be a response to the steady increase in water consumption that has been observed in the country’s residential, economic, industrial, and cultural sectors.

Witnessed by HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain and Chairman of the Umm Al Quwain Executive Council, the MoU was signed on Sunday, 11 June, by Humaid Rashid Al Shamsi, secretary-general of the Executive Council, and Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, director-general of FEWA.
