Himalayan Water Tower

Understanding how much water is available in the source areas of Asia’s large river is of crucial importance.

However, it is unknown how much snow and rain falls in the Himalayas, because of the lack of observations and the inaccessibility of the terrain.

The Himalayas and adjacent mountain ranges are an important source of water for more than 25% of the global population.

This research documentary shows how Utrecht University, ICIMOD and FutureWater use state-of-the-art measurement techniques and unmanned aerial vehicles to understand how the Himalayas are responding to climate change; which has great implications for millions of people downstream.
