While hydro-chmcl assmnt and GIS mapping is being done to assess quality and quantity of ground water in aquifers, it is apt to keep in reference that this water in sub-soil catchments and the associated greens on terrestrial surface behave like a sponge.  More water and greens indicate that the sub-soil is more spongy. This helps in absorbing seismic shocks at e- quake prone zones.  The propensity and effect of shock-waves would be less pronounced in spongy sub-soiled areas.  Consequently at urban high rise buildings, the risks are more. Therefore it is needed to ensure that adequate sub-soil water resources are maintained Etc.
