Clean water is a limited resource. Therefore, it is extremely important to save as much of it as we can. I have decided to make a list of useful water-saving apps.
H2O Tracker
H2O Tracker is a game which estimates how much water you use for everyday activities.
It is quite simple – by a push of a button, the app starts recording the sound and, taking into consideration its duration, calculates the water consumption. The water used is then ‘converted’ into money so every user can see exactly how much money they use by using water.
The app compares your water consumption to your neighbors’ and other people living in your city and gives you tips on how to save water. It even has a “Drought Response” system which gives warnings about droughts in your area and calculates the water amount you need.
Rain Harvest
Rain Harvest is a free app (iOS) which helps you calculate how much water that falls on your roof you can collect when it rains.
The app requires you to enter variables such as surface of your roof, amount of rainfall (in inches or millimeters), the number of collection points and the runoff efficiency.
The runoff efficiency is influenced by many factors including the composition of the surface it is falling on, air temperature, evaporation rate. 75% is a good estimation.
Leaky Faucet Drip
Leaky Faucet Drip helps you calculate how much water is wasted by your leaking taps.
You need to record 5 drops from a faucet by simply tap your iPhone when they fall down and the app will let you know how much water is wasted on daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis. You might be surprised to see how much water and money you can are losing with leaky faucets.
Water Use Calculator
Water Use Calculator is an app by National Ground Water Association which helps you use your water wisely by providing daily, weekly and annual calculations of water consumption in your household, based on a set of survey questions.
Not only will it automatically show calculations but it will automatically update with the change in water usage in your dishwasher, toilets, shower…
Your consumption is also compared to the average user.
Water1der
Water1der is a free trivia game (iOS) which helps you learn facts about water consumption and indirectly makes you save water by spreading awareness of how much water is spent on various things, e.g. food production.
Water1der makes you learn about water conservation, water usage, the water cycle, pollution prevention and conservation through a couple of different types of games.
