ARE DEPOSITED SLUDGE IN POLLUTED DEAD-RIVERS BEDS A SOURCE OF ENERGY?

On the other hand, the world population has increased tremendously and in the course of history, huge amount of untreated sewage and sludge have been and are being now dumped into rivers, to the extent that there are many dead rivers, here and there worldwide, as depicted on the following link:

The dumped sources of energy entering into rivers may not entirely decompose and transform through the aerobic and anaerobic digestion processes, but they may have end up as deposits on the river beds, river mouth and eventually on the adjacent shelf areas, where are joining the lakes, seas and oceans. As such, one may run a research study, taking samples from river beds, for analysis if the dredging of the sediments, with proper equipment could be justified, as energy source, or possibly obtaining rare elements and the like.

For the time being, Yamuna River, India AND Buriganga river, Bangladesh, could be appropriate candidates, based on the web information, for such a study, with the following descriptions:

" Yamuna the largest tributary river of the Ganges is one of the most polluted rivers in the world where 58% of the waste from the Indian capital New Delhi is dumped into the river. Its very surprising to note that a total of Rs 1,700 crore has been spent on cleaning Yamuna as well Ganges but with all efforts turning to vain, government has finally laid its hands down" (NOTE: THIS STATEMENT IS POSTED ON 02 February 2010, AND HOPING THE RIVER IS NOT UGLY ANYMORE, ON THIS DATE, IN JUNE, 2015, AFTER 5 YEARS.)

"The Buriganga River is the main river flowing beside Dhaka city, capital of Bangladesh. The biological dead river owns its plight to the 80% is untreated directly flowing into the river and polythenes deposited beneath water."
