NYS Invests in Water Infrastructure

New York is investing into water infrastructure around the state. $13.7 million in grants will go for eight municipal water infrastructure projects around the Southern Tier.

“Investments in water infrastructure are key to the economic success and public health of communities in the region and across New York,” Cuomo said in a statement.

“These grants will help municipalities replace aging infrastructure and plan for future growth while easing burdens on Southern Tier property taxpayers.”

The fiscal year 2017 budget includes $100 million in grants for water infrastructure improvements, with additional funding allowed the Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) to broaden eligibility for wastewater projects to provide $175 million in grants for round two.

The projects that are being funded by the state are planning, design and construction or enhancement of treatment plants, pump stations, sewer systems and equipment and filtration plants.

In addition to the grants, the EFC provides interest-free and low-interest loans to communities to reduce the cost of infrastructure projects, with $14.2 million to be added on top of the grants announced today to provide sustainable investment for the communities.
