Yuyun Ismawati Drwiega, Environmental Health specialist
Summary
I am a co-founder and Senior Advisor of BaliFokus Foundation, a Bali-based environmental NGO. I have broad and rich experiences in urban environmental management issues, climate change, environmental health and sanitation, and toxics issues. Participatory, policy strategy in sustainable development, stakeholders engagement, and systemic changes are the main approaches and tools of my intervention on environmental and health issues.
I am also a social entrepreneur that have interest in finding a systemic change to answer environmental problems, mainly through a Public-Private-People Partnerships.
At the global level, I am affiliated to IPEN (International Persistent Organic Pollutants Elimination Network), serves as the lead for Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining and the Toxics-Free Future Network: GAIA, WECF, and #BreakFreeFromPlastic movement.
Hold an Environmental Engineering Bachelor degree from ITB Indonesia, MSc in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford (2010-2011) and a PhD candidate in Medical Research - International Health at the Medical Centre of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München from 2015 until now. My research is focusing on the health impact of mercury on children in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.
Goldman Environmental Prize 2009 awardee, LEAD Fellow, Ashoka Fellow, and an Ancora Scholar.
