Thesis defense including toxicity assessment of microplastics in fish cell lines and pro-larvae.

Yesterday, we were glad to be present alongside Pauline, who after 3 years of work, supported her thesis at the University of Bordeaux:
"Alternative tools to animal testing for the evaluation of the toxicity of environmental contaminants: cell lines and embryo-larval tests in a model fish, the Japanese Medaka, Oryzias latipes " led by Jérôme Cachot
and Bénédicte Morin, both researcher at the UMR CNRS 5805 EPOC Laboratory.
During her thesis, Pauline exposed microplastics (collected during our first Race for Water Odyssey in 2015) to fish cells and larvae of Japanese medaka ( Oryzias latipes ) with the following 3 objectives she well completed:
1- Adapt and develop reliable, robust and sensitive toxicity biomarkers
2- Evaluate the relevance and sensitivity of biomarkers
3- Study the eco-toxicological effects of various pollutants including micro-plastics
Some of her results are being published.
