What will be the impacts of the Lower Sesan Dam? Who will suffer the most?
In Cambodia, just South of Laos, the "3S" River Basin is the main tributary to the Mekong. There are plans to build a large hydropower structure, the Lower Sesan 2 Dam, that will have a reservoir of 33,560 hectares and a hydropower potential of 400MW.
More than 5,000 people will be resettles and the dam would cause a 9.3 percent drop in fish stocks basin-wide, while threatening more than fifty fish species.
A recent film by Douglas Varchol (funded by CGIAR, IUCN, and Sida) explores the impacts of the Mekong dams. See how the people affected joined together and try to participate in the proposed Lower Sesan's development http://bit.ly/XEhxcb
