From nourishing our foods to storing massive amounts of carbon, soil is teeming with diverse microbial life that could slow global warming. Climate change scientist Jane Zelikova calls for agricultural practices that protect Earth's soil by growing climate-adapted crops that don't mess with the microbes. "Soils are the literal foundation of life on this planet -- the reason that we eat and the climate solution just waiting to be unlocked," she says.
This talk was presented at an official TED conference.
About the speaker
Jane Zelikova studies the impacts of climate change in natural and managed landscapes with a focus on engineered and natural carbon sequestration.

We cannot go to war with nature. We must respect and believe in nature's reactions. We humans, since we have implemented some different projects such as dam construction, air polluting factories (steel production industry, fossil fuels, petrochemicals and oil industries, etc.) Then we should expect the phenomenon of Elnino Southern Oscilation- ENSO (melting of polar ice, heavy floods, droughts and increase of greenhouse gases). After the correct and accurate implementation of each project, we humans must return the share of nature to it and not destroy it because nature is alive and understands and reacts.
