Call for Papers: The BIG Phosphorus Conference and Exhibition – Removal & Recovery 4th July 2017 - 5th July 2017, The Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester The event is supported by the UKWIR National Phosphorus Trials steering group and the National Chemical Investigation Programme (CIP) Phosphorus Steering Group “The UKWIR National P Trials steering group is very happy to be supporting the BIG P conference and will be using the event as a platform to disseminate the findings from the low-P trials”. Pete Vale, Technical Lead – Innovation, Severn Trent Water. Phosphorus is a finite resource and there are many established techniques and technologies to recover it. Economic recovery is a huge challenge though and in many instances it is not financially viable unless there are other enabling drivers that allow the capital and operating cost deficits to be internalised. These include the nuisance associated with struvite precipitation, the impact of P on dewatering processes and broader benefits derived from reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with reduced usage of Phosphorus fertilizers. Perhaps though, the biggest driver is where a site needs to remove Phosphorus in its wastewater to under 1 mg/l to meet tightening consents for phosphorus, driven by the Water Framework Directive. This conference and exhibition brings together experts in the field of phosphorus, technology suppliers and operators. It is the must attend event for anyone considering phosphorus removal and/or recovery.
