FEMA's Role in Floodplain Management:
FEMA plays a crucial role in protecting water treatment sites from floods through various programs and initiatives. These efforts help communities:
Assess flood risks: FEMA creates Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and conducts risk assessments ๐บ๏ธโ ๏ธ to identify areas vulnerable to flooding, including water treatment facilities.
Implement mitigation measures: FEMA offers grant programs like the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) ๐ฐ๐๏ธ to fund projects such as elevating facilities, building levees, and relocating facilities out of high-risk zones.
