On today's news it was announced that farmers are to be paid to hold back water on their land - about time this reversal of MAFF's policies was recognized. But we could also go back to contour ploughing which actually costs nothing and is very effective at reducing the runoff from arable land. But the sad thing about the recent floods is that individuals will not take responsibility for their own affairs - witness the number of written off cars left in flood prone areas.
