Whilst applauding any effort made to improve the quality of rivers, ozone disinfection has been tried extensively and commercially has always failed. This process requires significant energy and the carbon produced in achieving an outcome more than offsets the benefits gained.
Our Water Utilities are guilty of reaching for the moon, but infamous for dismissing the blatantly obvious when it comes to embracing innovative solutions.
opportunities to prevent CSO discharges and reduce the harmful effects of the effluent discharged and the frequency of discharges is one easily resolvable example. Solutions that generate no carbon and positively reduce their overall carbon footprint are completely ignored. The immediate benefits that this would have on river restoration is so significant?
