Aquastill - groundbreaking project on Bonaire: the results
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Case Studies
Aquastill is the first to successfully put a project involving sustainable desalination of seawater by membrane distillation into practice: view the facts and figures. Meanwhile the installation has been running for 14 months (july 2024), the unit produces up to 15.000 liters/day of safe water produced with waste heat from the generators. Because Aquastill membrane distillation thrives on waste heat, the system consumes only about 0.5 kWh/m3 distillate. Aquastill has achieved these sustainable results:
- more than 50% lower fuel consumption
- more than 80% lower carbon footprint
Membrane distillation by Aquastill Aquastill is the global technology leader in the field of membrane distillation. Our innovative technology can desalinate water on a medium (1000 m3/day) scale, at competitive costs and with minimal impact on the environment. Using waste or solar heat to power the process sustainably. With Aquastill you can desalinate water while reducing your carbon footprint.
