- Anson Resources (ASN) has produced battery grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate using brine from its Paradox Brine Project in the U.S.
- Anson appointed Veolia Water Technologies to conduct the test work using its "HPD evaporation and crystallisation technology"
- This process included extracting brine samples which were then processed using a direct lithium extraction technology to produce lithium chloride
- The chloride was then concentrated and the solution and gas were separated
- This produced a sample grade of 56.2 per cent lithium hydroxide
- The company has also conducted test work for the extraction of bromine from the Paradox brines
- Anson's share price is up 11.1 per cent on the market with shares trading for 3 cents apiece
Battery grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate has been produced using Anson Resources' (ASN) brine from its Paradox Bine Project in the U.S.
Anson appointed Veolia Water Technologies to conduct the test work from lithium hydroxide solution using an innovative process.
Veolia's process, titled "HPD evaporation and crystallisation technology", is a two stage LiOH.H2O crystallisation system designed to produce battery grade LiOH.H2O.
The grade of the sample produced was 56.2 per cent LiOH in dry crystal product.
The process includes extracting bulk brine samples from Anson's Paradox Brine Project in Utah. These samples were then processed off site using direct lithium extraction technology to produce lithium chloride.
The lithium chloride was concentrated, and the solution and chlorine gas were produced using electrolysis (separation of elements) which eliminated the step of producing lithium carbonate before producing lithium hydroxide.
Two products were then produced from the lithium hydroxide solution, battery quality lithium carbonate and battery grade LiOH.H2O.
With the completion of this test work, Anson is now able to design a plant that is capable of producing both battery grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate and lithium carbonate from lithium hydroxide solution.
Sample product has been sent to potential off-take partners and end users for consideration.
The completion of this test work by Veolia represents a significant milestone in the development of the Paradox Brine Project.
Over the past 12 months, Anson has successfully advanced from the production of small laboratory samples to the production of bulk samples of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide monohydrate.
In addition to this achievement, Anson has also conducted test work for the extraction of bromine from the Paradox brines.
The company plans to extract the bromine as the first stage of its multi-mineral stream strategy that takes advantage of its unique brine that contains lithium, bromine, iodine and boron.
The revenue from this bromine production will be used to finance the development of the lithium production plant.
