INTRODUCTION
Residents use a large amount of water for drinking, cooking and washing. However, even larger amounts are used in the production of goods such as food, paper, cotton garments, etc. The water footprint is an indicator of the use of water that takes in consideration both, the direct and indirect use by one consumer or manufacturer. The water footprint of an individual, community or business is defined by the total volume of freshwater used to produce the goods and services consumed by the individual or the community, as well as those produced by the commercial sector.

OBJECTIVE
This course's main goal is to familiarize the participants with water footprint basic concepts such as direct/indirect and internal/external water footprints; operational/supply chains; green, blue, and grey components; virtual water trade, water savings through changes on the supply chain; water-â€derived business risks, and environmental requirements among others. In addition, it is sought that participants learn and gain practical experience in water footprint accounting methodology and water footprint sustainability analysis.

The course will be taught by Water Footprint Network (www.waterfootprint.org) staff.
