The city has the status of ODF plus, households depend on the on-site sanitation systems

The city of Rajanna Sircilla in Telangana is famously referred to as a textile town as it houses a booming textile industry with over 4,000 power looms, textile processing and dyeing units.
The Maner river flows near the city’s southern outskirts, enhancing its beauty, especially during the festive season. Around 40,000 people from villages and towns nearby gather here to celebrate the 11-day-long sacred Bathukamma festival.
The Maner river — a major source of water supply — holds significance for the city, since its textile industry requires a large quantity of water.
Rajanna Sircilla has a first-grade municipality with a good sanitation management system, despite seven neighbouring villages that were merged to the core city, expanding its area by 55 square kilometres. The city’s households depend on the on-site sanitation systems, that is, toilets connected to septic tanks and single or twin pits.
An interesting observation about the city is that the people believe in vastu shastra (a traditional Indian system of architecture). Before constructing septic tanks in their premises, households ask priests to map the location, type and size of the tank.
