Dear Patron, I am working on the July 2016 issue and would like to invite you to contribute technical articles, case studies, research papers on “ Water Conservation & Resource Management” and facilitate a comprehensive perspective on the same. Please find below the theme note and do let us know if you could send us your article. Theme Note - Water Conservation & Resource Management – July 2016 Water being the world’s most valued strategic resource, it needs to be cautiously managed to meet the vicious challenges of access to clean drinking water and sustainable water and wastewater treatment process considering the regulatory norms, energy conservation and reduced waste and emissions. Besides, what fewer people know and what policy makers have failed to address is that the increasing pressures of climate change, population growth, urbanisation, and evolving energy needs, are together putting unprecedented pressure on our finite freshwater resources. Fresh water is a vulnerable resource, essential to sustain life, development and the environment.  But it is often overlooked in sustainable development. In addition, it is vital to recognise first the basic right of all human beings to have access to clean water and sanitation at an affordable price. Past failure to recognise the economic value of water has led to wasteful and environmentally damaging uses of the resource. For decades, feeding the world has been a top priority and the task is not getting any easier. It is estimated that over the next 40 years the world will need to double its food production to meet growing populations – set to increase by around 50% over the next 50 years. Agriculture already uses more water when compared to other human activity. This means efforts to increase food production will have to be undertaken with less water, especially as climate change will put our water resources under even greater stress. Consequently, managing water as an economic good will become an important way of achieving efficient and equitable use, and of encouraging conservation and protection of water resources. The value of water in alternative uses is important for the rational allocation of water as a scarce resource, whether by regulatory or economic means. Furthermore, the complexity of water conservation & resource management, combined with increased uncertainty, both through socio-economic developments and climate change, makes the traditional command-and-control approach less effective. An adaptive approach towards water conservation & resource management responds to a continuous process of adjustment that attempts to deal with the increasingly rapid changes in our societies, economies, climate and technologies. Thus our July 2016 issue on Water Conservation & Resource Management will be focusing the various functions of water conservation and resources management such as allocating water to major water users and uses, maintaining minimum levels for social and environmental use while addressing equity and development needs of society. Managing pollution to reduce most important pollution problems and minimize environmental and social impact. Implementing effective monitoring systems that provide essential management information and identifying and responding to infringements of laws, regulations and permits. We would like to invite you to share your experiences in the form of articles, technical papers and case studies with our readers. Please inform us of your intent to contribute at the earliest, so that we can evaluate the articles for the publication.  Topic Water Conservation & Resource Management Length 2000-4000 words Inclusions Related graphs, tables and images (high-resolution) along with captions + short bio of the author/s (including author’s present designation, educational qualification/s and years of experience in the field) Article Deadline June 10, 2016   You can also send in details about new product launches and press releases for inclusion in the magazine to editor@watertoday.org.   Best regards Water Today – Editorial Team
