Description: Hurricanes Matthew and Florence, two history-making hurricanes, touched down on the east coast in 2016 and 2018. Through an in-depth focus on a case with Black and Indigenous groups in Robeson County North Carolina, the purpose of this presentation is to highlight the importance of community organizing as a climate change adaptation strategy that communities of color have been using to meet their own needs in post-hurricane landscapes. Community adaptation strategies are important to highlight as we aim to address environmental inequities in marginalized communities, and to find solutions to the problems caused by climate change.
