New Antitranspirant to Boost Crop Yield

Haven is the new antitranspirant which creates a reflective surface on the plant leaves to reduce sunlight effects on the crops and prevent too much water evaporation resulting in boosted crop yield.

3337642_orig.gifTranspiration is the water movement process in the plant and its evaporation through stomata in leaves.

The plant takes the water only by its roots and 97-99.5% of it gets lost by evaporation and guttation.

In dry areas, with intense sunlight, plants can get damaged by losing lots of water through their leaves. In case of high evaporative demand, crops can suffer from stress and yield in decreased, especially in the sensitive periods of plant growth.

Antitranspirants are compounds sprayed on plants to protect them by reducing transpiration.

Antitranspirants are, therefore, used to protect the plant from losing too much water and subsequently to increase the crop yield.

Marrone Bio Innovations launched the Haven Anti-transpirant for numerous types of fruit, nuts and vegetables, as well as corn, wheat and turf.

Haven minimizes sun stress, thus increasing crop yield and improving quality.

It is made from plant-based compounds. When applied, it reflects light and heat and therefore minimizes the vapour pressure gradient, reducing transpiration. The leaf temperatures are kept lower, water loss is reduced, which results in less stress for the plant.

Haven physically blocks the sun but leaves no residue or deposit on the crop.
