The present study provides a conservative estimate of the microbead percentage in pelagic microplastics collected in the coastal waters of Japan.
Dear Atsuhiko Isobe , have you or did you plan to analyse the sorbed chemicals of the microbead you collected for this study ?
Moreover, did you know if there is any regulation in progress regarding microplastic particles present as ingredient in personal care and cosmetic products sold in Japan ?
Thank you in advance for your answer,
Regards

Hi Kim san, your concern with my paper is greatly appreciated! I did not analyze sorbed chemicals because my background is physical oceanography, and thus, my focus is on origin, transport processes in ocean currents, and fate of plastic fragments. Prof Hideshige Takada (you met him in Tokyo), an excellent environmental chemist in Japan, may publish a research report on this matter. Unfortunately, we don't have any regulation to microbeads in PCCPs in Japan. I however know manufacturers in Japan started self-imposed regulation to reduce microbeads in their products. best, isobe

Thanks a lot Atsuhiko for your quick answer! I will therefore ask to Prof Hideshige Takada if he can tell me more about this report. Did you think you could share with us some names of these Japan's manufacturers you know that started to reduce microbeads in their products ? All the best, Kim
