Kampala Capital City Authority, (KCCA) has introduced a new cheaper technology of managing fecal matter in the city.
The new technology is targeting low income earners most probably those who were fond of releasing fecal matter in the drainages of Kampala which has been contaminating all the spring water in the city Centre.
Recently water analysis established that all spring water in Kampala city is contaminated.
But according to the Water and Sanitation Supervisor Kampala Capital City Authority, (KCCA) Jude Byansi the new technology will reduce the incidents of releasing fecal matter in the Kampala drainages.
The new technology code named ‘Motor Cycle Gulping’ will be helping in ensuring that people in the city centre whose toilets are getting filled and lack enough money or space to construct new toilets are helped.
The tri-cycle gulping technology has a tank which carries the capacity of 200litres of fecal matter from latrine and can suck all the fecal matter including polyphone paper, dippers to prevent it from blocking and over flowing.
"The cycle can access slum areas where heavy cesspool emptier cannot reach; the system is also cheaper for low income earners. For each 200 liter emptying the fee charged is sh.25, 000 compared to the cesspool emptier which costs sh.65, 000 for KCCA trucks and 100,000 for private companies," explained Byansi.
Byansi who was speaking sanitation week celebrations for Kampala central warned residents who are in the habit of releasing fecal matter by opening their manhole covers and those who carry out open defecation that they will be apprehend by KCCA and will face the law.
He said that latrine coverage in Kampala is still low with several residents still having open defecation while others use polythene bags and dumping in the drainage channels.
He advised the residents to utilize the available KCCA cesspool emptier rather than opening their sewage pits to let out fecal matter into the drainages.
The day which was organised in partnership with Water for People, NAWAD and other Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and KCCA was aimed at ensuring that communities report any incidents of open defection and flooding latrines.
The day that was celebrated under the THEME: "Good Sanitation How is your Leader." marked the cleaning and opening drainages in the suburbs of Kisenyi 111 in the villages of Kawempe; Kiguli and Nkooku zone where sanitation was very so poor.
It was funded by the WATER FOR PEOPLE and other civil society organisation dealing in water and sanitation.
The residents through their leaders told KCCA to revamp its end of month Saturday clean up exercise which, they said had helped them to get rid of garbage and diseases.
Water for People installed new latrine facilities which draw away toilet flies in areas of Kisenyi III.
Cate Zziwa Niwamanya the Director water for people applauded government towards providing a favoring environment which has helped them to supplement on its work.
She also called upon the residents to be ambassadors of sanitation and also fight open defecation among them.
"It is unfortunate that we still see people using polythene to ease themselves which she said is responsible for diseases like cholera and typhoid in the city Centre, "she said.
"Noelina Kigongo a resident and leader in Kiguli zone said "We need equipment like spades, folks, wheel barrows and enough garbage trucks to collect garbage from the slums,".

If rain water were formed as we all learned,
1- it would have rained much more during the warm seasons because the evaporation is more important than during the cold seasons.
2- A dense, permanent fog from the ground up to the height of the current clouds would have formed. If you say that water in the gaseous state is invisible, I would say that its decomposition is even more (final stage).
3- why do we expect rain when a storm is coming (lightning + thunder) if there is not an intimate relationship between lightning, thunder and rain?The theory "evaporation-condensation-rain", has no author, do you realize? !
