Environmental footprints reveal resource appropriation for soybean production in Mato Grosso, Brazil
Published on by Markus Pahlow, University of Canterbury - Senior Lecturer
"The amount of rainfall used each year to produce soybean for export from the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso is equivalent to the water in the Itaipu reservoir - one of Brazil's largest reservoirs. That's according to researchers from Canada, the US and Brazil who looked at the resource use and virtual resource flows accompanying Brazil's soybean exports to China and Europe."
