Seven Seas Water and WASA Trinidad celebrate the commissioning of new 4.6MGD desalination plant

September 4, 2013 - Trinidad & Tobago - Senator the Honourable Ganga Singh, Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, and Keith Gilges, Head of the Economic Section of the Embassy of the United States in Port of Spain, unveil the cornerstone marking the commissioning of the Point Fortin Desalination Facility on Wednesday, September 4th, 2013. The 4.6 million gallon per day seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant at Point Fortin is the largest desalination project in the country in 10 years, and the project is a key component of Trinidad's committment to bring water to it's people 24 hours a day, 5 and 7 days a week.

Under a build, own, operate arrangement, and after all the required permits were approved, Seven Seas Water constructed the facility in just 12 months. The team responsible for designing and constructing the plant in Point Fortin, were also involved in the design and construction of the Desalcott Plant in Point Lisa's (the largest desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere) some 11 years ago. Seven Seas will operate the desalination plant, with a committment to hire and train a local workforce, many of whom are already in place.

The commissioning of the 4.6MGD plant in Trinidad comes on the heels of the August 13th commissioning of the 3.3MGD new SWRO desalination plant inSt. Thomas, USVI.
