The AWS International Water Stewardship Standard

The AWS International Water Stewardship Standard (the Standard) is designed to be an international, ISEAL-compliant, standard that defines a set of water stewardship principles, criteria, and indicators for how water should be stewarded at a site and watershed level in a way that is environmentally, socially, and economically beneficial. The Standard is intended to provide water stewards with an approach for evaluating the existing processes and performances within their sites and watersheds, and ensuring that responsible water stewardship actions are in place to minimize negative impacts and maximize positive impacts.

The Alliance for Water Stewardship wishes to remind everyone that we are entering the final month on the development of the AWS Standard. Your input on the Beta version of the AWS Standard will shape the future of water stewardship. All submissions will be passed along to the International Standard Development Committee (ISDC) - the global stakeholder body tasked with determining the content of the Standard - for consideration as they complete the v1.0 AWS Standard. The 1.0 version of the AWS Standard, which will be explicitly linked with the European Water Stewardship system and is the culmination of AWS's Water Roundtable standard-setting process, will enable sites throughout the world to verify water risk mitigation and responsible water stewardship.

The opportunity to provide feedback on the Beta AWS Standard closes on December 1st, 2013 leaving 24 DAYS to give input (note: AWS will continue to incorporate feedback from the beta sites after this date). Between December 2013 and March 2014, the ISDC will work with the AWS to complete the v1.0 AWS Standard which is scheduled for release in April, 2014 along with the AWS's verification program and training program.
