Ganga Rejuvenation programme
Published on by Yogesh Agrawal, Director (retired), Minor irrigation schemes, Water Resources Department at Govt of Rajasthan
The Ganga Rejuvenation programme should include institutional changes in the policy and programmes of Government of India and the state governments. The policies of the Industry, Mining, Public Health Engineering, Building and Roads, Forest department, local self government, departments and also of Municipal corporations and municipality should be reviewed and modified. The religious leaders should also be contacted and encouraged to modify the religious procedures which adversely affect water bodies and natural drainage channels adversely. The institutional changes may bring Rejuvenation of all village ponds, lakes, reservoirs, rivers and their tributaries. Ultimately hopefully India may be able to keep its water bodies and rivers as pollution free as in Europe.
