Lets follow our discussion on marine litter!

Hello everybody,

As promised, I have created the Bermuda Marine Debris working group on the Water Guardian Experts platform to follow our discussion we had on June 30th on board the Race for Water Ambassador vessel in Bermuda.

An interesting exchange learning on various projects to fight this plastic pollution issue with:

Anne Hyde (Director of Keep Bermuda Beautiful): Bermuda Marine Debris Takforce (BMDT) activities to promote awareness, to asses the quantity and to develop advocacy initiatives.

Robbie Smith (curator at the Bermuda Aquarium's Natural History Museum and chief scientist of the BMT): Marine plastic debris research in Bermuda (recent beach surveys from 2010 to 2016, surveys conducted by student groups, volunteers, Bermuda College students, surface manta trawls to estimate plastic debris at sea, assessment of plastic contamination in bivalves).

Shane Antonition (Undergraduate student at Univeristy of Plymouth: Microplastics on Bermuda beaches (research study on going with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science (BIOS)).

Camilla Catarci Carteny (Ephemare researcher and PhD student at the Univeristy of Antwerp, Belgium): A focus on the EPHEMARE project and the analysis ongoing at the University of Antwerp.

Raimundo Blanco (Ephemare researcher and research assistant at ECOTOX, University of Vigo, Spain): The purpose of the ECOTOX research ongoing at the Univeristy of Vigo (evaluation of Bermudan seas)

Christelle Clérendeau (Ephemare researcher and research engineer at EPOC, Univeristy of Bordeaux, France): Areas of expertise of the EPOC laboratory and Race for Water Odyssey 2015 results regarding the toxicity assessment of pollutants sorbed on microplastics in fish.

Great also to hear Vanese Gordon exchanging on the waste management in Bermuda, Amy Munro and Jennifer Pitcher on the 35th America's cup exhibitions and sustainability efforts, Kyla Smith and Rebecca Garley of the BIOS, Dörte Horsfield and Hanna Horsfield of the Bermuda National Trust, Jennifer Gray working on the impact of marine litter in turtles and Gilles Lorimer Turner post graduate student at the University of Cardiff (UK).

If I forget anyone please include him or her in this discussion that I aim would be fruitful!

Do not hesitate to post on this open group all documents or content that you think relevant to share with the other members of the Water Guardian Experts platform,
