Water and Land Management Institutes (WALMIs) are functional in many states to provide training and capacity building andtechnical back up to state water resource departments. Few states are having vibrant WALMIs like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh etc while other state WALMIs needs to be strengthen by providing additional support. One of the predominant cause of deteriorating state is weak core faculty. Experts and WALMI promoters may ponder upon this.
Secondly it is now imperative to widen the scope of WALMIs and use their expertise in Watershed, Drinking water, Sanitation water, Urban water issues, Rain Water harvesting etc.. In fact we need to established National Institute of Water Management (NIWM).
