WASH FOR ALL-ALL FOR WASH
Published on by Silvia Lopez
The UN General Assembly has passed a resolution on 17th July,2013 as proposed by the Government of Singapore on "Sanitation for All" and the establishment of November 19th as World Toilet Day.
The General Assembly stated - "The amusement and laughter likely to follow the designation of 19th November as "World Toilet Day" would all be worthwhile, if people's attention was drawn to the fact that 2.5 billion people lacked proper sanitation and 1.1 billion were forced to defecate in the open".
In a statement issued immediately following the Assembly session, UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson said that the new annual observance would "go a long way toward raising awareness about the need for all human beings to have access to sanitation".
It is GREAT to endorse such a Resoulution. Now, let us implement this in a prioritised manner— " Sanitation For All".
Lets join hand together for better WASH condition in the world.

Dear Silvia, Vaxis Power® LLC is a startup wind turbine project that has a mission statement "Power at the point of need." Remote energy can be a part of the answer in water treatment and sanitation issues world-wide. We hope to get fully funded and begin to help with this global tragedy. Until then, I wish you all the best in your efforts. See our story at www.vaxispower.com , Dennis Liljegren.

Issues of sanitation and hygiene are basically about attitude change which in deed is a big challenge as we all know. Having people to change from their old ways and habits takes time, where the actual challenge arises is having them to sustain the change. If it wasn't so the CLTS approach being implemented in many countries would have contributed immensely in this direction. If you know the importance of having a latrine, you wouldn't need someone to come build one for you. Let's think towards this direction. Thank you all.

This is a good development. I hope and pray that all the major players involved in achieving this will be honest and carry out every detail with absolute commitment and sincerity of purpose. When this is done, then we will get rid of bad environment and epidemics from our society. This will make our people, especially the Africans to live long and sickness free at least.

This is an important support for WASH sector and will facilitate in further awareness creation. However, I still believe, inspiration and action more than awareness is required in making sanitation for all a success. Factors affecting sanitation programmes range from resource constraint to absence or lack of enforcement of policies.

Dear siliva, its so true that we have to concentrate our edevelomnet work on WASH sector now. If we are not able to fullfill the basic needs how can we are going to talk about the growth of a nation? I am a grass level worker and internet is not that good here but I still keep visiing this group. Here i am posting a viedo which shows how people are getting aware of sanitation.Kenya-based video journalist Ruud Elmendorp recently produced this short trailer (on behalf of Waste.NL) on a young woman that refuses to marry her boyfriend – until his family builds a proper toilet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE-bkQds8R8
